Goddess Saraswati has retained her significance as a goddess from Vedic age up to present day. She is called the mother of Vedas. She is goddess of knowledge, music, art and wisdom. She is portrayed as seated on lotus, which symbolizes light, knowledge and truth. Her image is also shown as four hands which represent Manas (mind), Buddhi(intellect), Chitta(creativity), and ahamkara(self consciousness). She is also called goddess of 'Vani' (language).
