Dhanwantari is an avatar of Vishnu in The Vedas. He appears in the Vedas and Puranas as the god of Ayurveda. Dhanwantari is depicted as Vishnu with four hands, holding Shankha, Chakra, Jalauka (leech) and a pot containing rejuvenating nectar called Amrita Kalash. In India Dhanwantari is prayed for sound health. Govt. Of India has declared that Dhanwantari Jayanti every year would be celebrated as "National Ayurveda Day".
