King on Elephant A royal mount from time immortal, the elephant being a symbol of strength and wealth. For the Indian kings, the elephants were of special significance not only during war but also during the royal festivities-a must at royal pageant. The king always mounted a caparisoned elephant. The mahouts (elephantkeepers) take great care to decorate the elephants from tusk to tail.
