MAGNIFICENT MAHARASHTRA Bodhisattva Padmapani The Ajanta caves (6th century AD) have been described as the finest surviving examples of Indian art. Today there are only nine surviving images, the most famous is the Bodhisattva Padmapani. Ellora Ellora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. It is one of the largest rock-cut monastery-temple cave complexes in the world. Pratapgad Pratapgad is a hill fort in the district of Satara, constructed in 1656 under the orders of the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Battle of Pratapgad fought on 10 November 1659. This set the stage of the establishment of the Maratha empire. Tutari Tutari is a traditional bugle-like instrument of Maharashtra, played to herald the arrival of kings and princes. It is played at the festival time and to celebrate victory. Nauvari Saree Traditional Maharashtrian saree, also known as Nauvari saree, has a very rich heritage. The original thought behind the invention of this drape is the most liberating feeling ever. Nauvari saree got this name because of its length of nine yards. Gate way of India Built to commemorate the visit of the King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. Construction was finished in 1924. This majestic structure was designed by the Scottish architect George Wittet.
